Cedar Falls

Well, we have arrived in Cedar Falls and are mostly settled in. Matt had the first two weeks here off and that was a HUGE help. All the boxes are unpacked or tucked away into some corner to be gone through another day. Just need to put a few more things on the walls and we should be done. There just never seems to be enough time to do it.
Moving has been hard. I knew it would be, but I kept hoping that somehow I wouldn't really have to go through it ( I think they call it denial). I cried the first few miles as we left Missouri and was glad Matt was driving the moving truck and I didn't have to talk to anyone.
We arrived in Iowa late Friday night, the 30th, and met our landlord and got keys to our home. Let me just say it isn't my dream home, but after a few weeks I am adjusting. Matt and I even played the "glad game" for the first few days just to get through it. The girls, however, found everything charming. They loved the shower curtains (one with dolphins and another with a Map of the world), the basement, two secret passage ways, the squirrels in the yard, a huge patio, the jetted tub in the basement and a toy room.
Here are a few of my favorite things about living here:
1 - The best part of moving here has been the people. Iowans are by far the friendliest people on earth. If you don't believe me, just move here! We have met all of our neighbors, been invited to many people's homes, received gifts and talked with the nicest people everywhere we go.
2 - I love that there is only one Walmart in town and it is located on the other side. I've only been there once. In contrast, I love the grocery store a few blocks from my home that never lets me push my own cart to the car and has the best meat counter in the world. Also, you have to love all the local fresh produce available.
3- Four Queens Dairy. You'll have to come here if you want to experience it.
4- University of Northern Iowa. UNI just feels like home. Once again, we have met so many great and friendly people. And it is so nice for Matt to be on the other side of "student." I really should call him Dr. Webb more often.
5- My family. Matt has been very understanding of his hormonal and tired wife. The girls always remind me of what is important and where I should be spending my time.

Sorry no pictures now, but I hope to have them up soon. We miss all our friends in Columbia so much. This morning as we were getting in the car to go to church we all had a good cry and remembered so many great memories from our time there. I'm sure in a few years I'll be saying the same thing about Cedar Falls.

Thanks for the post. I've so been wondering how you guys were. It is definitely an adjustment isn't it. I'm glad your girls like your house. Hunter hates ours and wants to move back. :) I'm also jealous of your nice grocery store and how you don't have to go to Walmart. What a perk! We are missing our game nights because people here want to play with the kids awake. We tried it, and it took us 3 hours to play Carcasonne, which should have taken one. I'm glad the people are nice. It is the same here. Congrats to Dr. Matt for passing too! We miss you.

well, i still have good cries once in a while about missing Missouri. i am glad everything is working out so well for you all. Now that we have been here a year, we are finally feeling a part of the community and now the thought of moving again is a little depressing. Congrats to Matt!
